What Time Blocking Is
Module 1, Lesson 1 of Time Blocking Mastery
Time blocking is the practice of giving your tasks a specific place on your calendar. Instead of keeping a list and hoping to get through it, you decide in advance when you will work on each important thing, and you protect that time as you would a meeting.
The idea is simple, but it changes how you relate to your to-do list. A list tells you what you could do; a time-blocked calendar shows what you can realistically do with the hours you actually have. Very often it reveals that the list is longer than the week, which is useful information rather than a failure.
Time blocking is not about rigidity. Plans change, and a good blocked calendar is easy to rearrange. The aim is to make deliberate choices about your time rather than letting the day fill itself up with whatever arrives first.
Try this
Pick one important task for tomorrow. Open your calendar, find a 45-minute slot and block it with the task name. Tomorrow, notice whether having the block made it easier to start.
Key takeaways
- Time blocking gives each important task a place on your calendar
- It shows what is realistic, not just what is possible
- Blocks can move; the point is to choose deliberately
