What this is

Creative Problem Solving teaches a structured process you can apply to real situations: a stalled creative project, a tricky household or community challenge, a recurring frustration at work or a goal you have not been able to reach. Instead of waiting for a flash of inspiration, you follow a sequence of stages that reliably moves you from confusion to action.

The course is organised around four stages: finding the real problem, framing it as a well-chosen question, generating and strengthening solutions, and testing and acting on them. Each lesson focuses on one step, with a worked example and an exercise you apply to a problem of your own. By the end you will have taken one real problem all the way through the process.

What you will be able to do

  • Distinguish the real problem from its surface symptoms
  • Gather facts and feelings before jumping to solutions
  • Write and choose powerful how might we questions
  • Generate many options and strengthen the most promising one
  • Test ideas cheaply and turn the best one into a concrete action plan

Questions

Is this live or self-paced?

Fully self-paced. Every lesson is written and available in your account after checkout, so you can work through Creative Problem Solving on your own schedule.

Does this include coaching, live calls or a community?

No. It is a self-paced course of written lessons and exercises. It does not include coaching, live calls, a cohort or a community.

Those courses focus on generating ideas. Creative Problem Solving is a full end-to-end process: it includes understanding and framing the problem before generating ideas, and testing and acting on solutions afterwards.

Almost any open-ended problem where there is no single correct answer: creative projects, personal goals, household or community challenges and everyday work problems. It is not designed for technical, legal, medical or financial decisions that need professional advice.

Can I see a lesson before buying?

Yes. The first lesson is a free preview you can read right now from the button at the top of this page.

How long does it take?

Most people complete one or two lessons a week, but you can go at any pace you like. Each lesson ends with a practical exercise.

Does this include a certification or credential?

No. This is a practical skills course for your own learning. It does not award a certification, licence or professional credential.
