What this is

Creative Thinking is a course about the mind. It explains, in plain language, how new ideas are formed and what mental habits make original thinking more likely. Instead of focusing on any one craft or on emotional blocks, it treats creative thinking as a set of cognitive skills you can understand and practise.

Over eight lessons you will learn the difference between generating and judging ideas, how associations and analogies combine old material into new ideas, how reframing changes what seems possible, why constraints and rest both help, and how to evaluate ideas without crushing them. Each lesson ends with an exercise that strengthens one specific mental move. For a hands-on catalogue of named techniques, see the companion course Creative Thinking Tools.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain the difference between divergent and convergent thinking and use each at the right time
  • Generate ideas by deliberately forming new associations
  • Reframe a situation to reveal options you had not seen
  • Use analogies and constraints to push past obvious answers
  • Evaluate and develop ideas without dismissing them too early
