Description
Microservices & Distributed Systems Design is a written, self-paced course in six modules. You cover strategies for decomposing a monolith into services; REST, gRPC and event-driven communication; service meshes such as Istio and Linkerd; the saga pattern, CQRS and event sourcing; resilience patterns including circuit breakers, retries and bulkheads; and distributed tracing with OpenTelemetry and Jaeger.
It is a design-focused educational course with practical exercises, not a vendor certification. It does not promise that microservices are right for your system; often a well-structured monolith is the better choice, and this course helps you judge the trade-offs. Code examples are illustrative, so test any pattern carefully before using it in production.
What you will be able to do
- Decide when microservices are and are not appropriate
- Decompose a system into services using business capabilities and bounded contexts
- Choose between REST, gRPC and asynchronous messaging for a given interaction
- Apply sagas, CQRS and event sourcing where they fit
- Add resilience patterns and distributed tracing to a set of services
Educational content only. No income, revenue or earnings results are promised or implied. This course does not award a certification, licence or professional credential.
