What this is

Photography Foundations: Light & Composition focuses on the two skills that matter most in any photograph: how light falls on your subject and how you arrange what is in the frame. Instead of chasing gear, you will train your eye with short, repeatable shooting exercises that work with a phone, a compact camera or an interchangeable-lens camera.

Across six modules you will study natural and artificial light, exposure basics, classic composition tools, colour and mood, and a simple editing workflow, then finish by planning a small personal photo series that pulls every skill together.

What you will be able to do

  • Read the quality, direction and colour of light in any location
  • Control exposure with confidence using the settings available on your camera or phone
  • Use framing, lines, layers and negative space to guide the viewer's eye
  • Edit photographs consistently with a light, repeatable workflow
  • Plan and shoot a cohesive small series of eight to ten images
